The village is highly attractive and with its valley topography and mature trees and has long been a popular residential location. Close proximity to the Wicklow Mountains and eastern ends of both the Sally Gap and Wicklow Gap has resulted in the village developing a natural tourism ‘gateway’ role and offers access to many walking and cycling trails. The village is well served by local shops (Tesco), churches and primary schools. Sporting facilities in the area include Ashford GAA Club, Wicklow Golf Club and an Equestrian Centre. There are a wide range of further facilities and supermarkets in nearby Wicklow Town as well as transport connections with regular trains to Dublin and the southeast. A Bus Eireann route serves Ashford, connecting the village with Dublin City Centre and Dublin Airport. The River Vartry passes though the town and adjoins the property in sale. It is a protected salmonoid river and a particular feature. The flow in the river is constrained further upstream by the Vartry Dam.
